Los Brecitos - Caldera de Taburiente

PR LP 13

United States
28° 42' 41.7816" N, 17° 54' 2.4372" W

This is an extremely hard hike, especially when done in its full length. However, it is possible to take "Calle Hacienda del Cura" via taxi to Los Brecitos, where we enter the Caldera de Taburiente national park from the top. While this makes the hike entirely downhill, it should not be underestimated and remains very demanding.
After approximately 3 hours we reach one of La Palma´s few camping sites, which is usually staffed by a park ranger with radio contact, should this be necessary for whatever reasons. Reservations for this camping site can be made here. The most difficult - but also most impressive - stretch of this hike is the considerable amount of hiking which takes place in the Barranco de las Angustias ravine. Here we encounter loose pebble and stones, water and mud. At times it is necessary to cross the river, which can be challenging dependent on the amount of water running through.
Nature preserves along the trail: Paisaje Protegido del Barranco de Las Angustias & Parque Nacional de La Caldera de Taburiente.
Seasonality: We advise to take this hike only during the summer month, when it has not rained in a while, as the amount of water can otherwise be a serious problem and potential danger.

My partner and I have been in La Palma for 2 weeks running and hiking all over. Mainly the GR131 for the Transvulcania La Palma. But we also loved the PRLP13.
